German mezzo-soprano Luzia Tietze began her professional career as a member of the International Opera Studio of Cologne Opera (Oper Köln) from 2020 - 2023, followed by two seasons as a freelance artist. In the 2025/26 season, she joined the ensemble of Staatstheater Cottbus.

In Cottbus, she recently made her role debuts as Fenena in Nabucco, the Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen, and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly. She also appeared there as Lieselein in Zemlinsky’s Kleider machen Leute and as a soloist in Helmut Oehring’s contemporary opera Aschemond oder The Fairy Queen in a widely acclaimed production by Sebastian Baumgarten.

In the 2024/25 season, she was heard as Tisbe in La Cenerentola and as Mercedes in Carmen at Theater Hagen. She also returned to Cologne Opera for Kaija Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone under the baton of Christian Karlsen.

In the 2023/24 season, Luzia made her debut in Spain at Palau de les Arts Valencia under the baton of James Gaffigan, performing the role of the Governess in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades. She was then re-engaged to sing the Third Lady in The Magic Flute later that season. She also appeared as Marchesa Melibea in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at Theater Aachen. In concert, she performed Lera Auerbach’s Symphony No. 6: Vessels of Light with the Dresden Philharmonic under the baton of François Leleux.

During her time at the International Opera Studio of Cologne Opera, she performed numerous roles on the main stage as well as in the Children’s Opera, including the Third Lady in The Magic Flute (conducted by Jordan de Souza and Duncan Ward), Mercedes in Carmen (Alfred Eschwé), the Third Woodsprite in Rusalka (Constantin Trinks), and the Third Maid in The Dwarf (Lawrence Renes). She also portrayed Anton in Eröd’s Pünktchen und Anton, the Boy in The Musician, and several roles in The Ring of the Nibelung for Young and Old.

While studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, she gained stage experience in roles such as the title role in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Olga in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Jacques Offenbach’s La Périchole, and Dinah in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. She won First Prize at the International Opera Competition Triomphe de l’Art in Brussels and participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Marina Prudenskaya, Dunja Vejzović, and Michaela Schuster.
