Since the 2023/24 season, the young german mezzosoprano Luzia Tietze has been working as a freelance artist and is represented by Boris Orlob Management. She is based in Cologne/Germany, where she was previously engaged at the International Opera Studio (2020 - 2023). Currently, she can be seen at the Hagen Theatre as Tisbe in La Cenerentola and as Mercedes in Carmen. She will return to Cologne Opera in May ´25 for a production of Kaija Saariaho's La Passion de Simone. Future plans include the role of Flosshilde in a new production of Richard Wagners Das Rheingold at Cologne Opera in 25/26, which will be Luzias first full Wagner part on stage.
In the 2023/24 season, Luzia made her debut in Spain at the Palau de les Arts Valencia under the baton of James Gaffigan, performing the role of the Governess in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades as well as the Third Lady in The Magic Flute. Additionally, she sang the roles of La Marchesa Melibea and Modestina in Gioachino Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at Theater Aachen. In concert, she performed Lera Auerbach’s Symphony No. 6 “Vessels of Light“ with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra under François Leleux and appeared at Aachen Cathedral in Bruckner’s “Te Deum“ under the batton of Christopher Ward.
During her time at the Cologne Opera Studio from 2020 to 2023, she performed various roles on the main stage as well as in Children's Opera, including the Third Lady in The Magic Flute (conducted by Jordan de Souza and Duncan Ward), Mercedes in Carmen (Alfred Eschwé), Third Woodsprite in Rusalka (Constantin Trinks), and Third Maid in The Dwarf (Lawrence Renes). She also portrayed Anton in Eröds’ Pünktchen und Anton, The Boy in The Musician as well as several roles in The Ring of the Nibelung for Young and Old.
During her studies at HfM Hanns Eisler Berlin she gained stage experience in roles such as the title role in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Olga in Eugene Onegin, La Périchole in Jaques Offenbach’s operetta La Périchole, and Dinah in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. She won the first prize in her age category at the International Opera Competition “Triomphe de l’Art“ in Brussels and participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Marina Prudenskaya, Julia Varady, Dunja Vejzovic, Michaela Schuster and Anne Schwanewilms.
